New Los Angeles museum brings together film, illustration, comics and visual storytelling in a major cultural opening.
LOS ANGELES — September 22, 2026 — The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opens in Los Angeles on Tuesday, introducing a major new cultural institution dedicated to visual storytelling.
Located in Exposition Park, the museum brings together works spanning illustration, comics, film-related art and other forms of narrative imagery. The collection includes material connected to popular culture as well as established American art.
The museum was founded by filmmaker George Lucas and Mellody Hobson and is designed to explore how images can communicate stories across different artistic traditions.
Among the works highlighted around the opening are Star Wars-related artifacts and Norman Rockwell paintings, alongside other examples of narrative art.
The opening adds a major new destination to Los Angeles' cultural landscape and comes during a year of expanded museum and heritage programming across the United States.
The museum's arrival is also part of a broader wave of new cultural institutions and exhibitions opening in 2026, giving Los Angeles another prominent venue for visitors interested in film, popular culture, illustration and American art.
