Police have launched an investigation after a man sustained serious injuries following an alleged assault in West Belfast during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Falls Road area shortly after 2am following reports of an incident involving a man with significant head injuries. The injured man was treated at the scene before being transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital for further medical care.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed it received an emergency call at approximately 2:14am on Sunday and dispatched an ambulance crew to the location. After assessment and initial treatment, one person was taken to hospital.

According to police, officers attended the scene alongside ambulance personnel after receiving reports of a man whose injuries appeared consistent with an assault.

A 33-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public for assistance, urging anyone who was in the Falls Road area at the time of the incident or who may have CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage to come forward.

Police said enquiries remain ongoing as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
