Democrats are preparing potential congressional investigations into business dealings involving President Donald Trump’s family if they gain control of either the House or Senate after the November midterm elections.
According to Reuters, a Democratic majority in either chamber would give lawmakers subpoena powers and additional resources for investigative staff. Some of the potential inquiries could focus on Trump-linked cryptocurrency companies and 1789 Capital, an investment firm associated with Donald Trump Jr.
The possible investigations would examine business relationships and transactions involving companies connected to the Trump family. Reuters reported that some Republicans could also participate in individual inquiries, while businesses could face decisions over how to respond to congressional requests.
The White House has rejected the prospect of such investigations, describing Democratic efforts as baseless attempts to target President Trump and his agenda.
The issue comes as the 2026 U.S. midterm elections approach, with control of Congress at stake. Any investigations would depend on which party controls the relevant congressional committees and their leadership following the elections.
The developments could put presidential business interests, congressional oversight and conflicts-of-interest questions at the center of Washington politics in the months ahead.
