New exhibition celebrates the Spokane artist’s work and his contribution to Native American art and cultural traditions.
SPOKANE, Wash. — September 23, 2026 — The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture has opened “George Flett: Remembering,” a new exhibition celebrating the work and legacy of Spokane artist George Flett.
The exhibition, running from September 23, 2026, through January 10, 2027, features about 20 works from Flett’s career. Museum officials say the show highlights his importance as an artist, mentor and preserver of Spokane and Plateau history.
Flett, who lived from 1946 to 2013, was known for helping revive Ledger Art, a Native American art tradition, as well as the Prairie Chicken Dance. His work connected contemporary artistic practice with the history and cultural traditions of the Spokane and Plateau peoples.
The exhibition also comes as Flett is being recognized with the 2026 Distinguished Artist Award from the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums.
“George Flett: Remembering” gives visitors an opportunity to explore the artist’s contribution to Native American art while highlighting the continuing importance of cultural preservation through museums and creative work.
